this is a film worth seeing. yes, the final moments are unfortunate and difficult to watch, but it is an incredible well made film with two unbelievable performances. the prologue is particularly riveting. memorable laundry sequence, to say the least.
i don’t always agree with anthony lane, but i’m pretty close to agreeing with this sentiment:
“A word to the squeamish: there is no shame in leaving as the tools—and I use the word advisedly—come out. In a way, you will be getting the best of “Antichrist,” which until now has been a film of awkwardness, confusion, and great beauty.”
in many ways it would be a shame to miss the very last images of the film, but the twenty that come before those are pretty unnecessarily gory in my opinion. if you are going to see it though, you should try to stick it out. well stick it out for the fun with tools scenes. if you have a history of seizures when viewing disturbing imagery, this movie ain’t for you (mistake on lincoln center’s part not to include that disclaimer).
